Monitor your usage with online tools

MyHydro is an online tool available to all BC Hydro business customers. It enables you to view your site’s electricity consumption to give you some insights into how your business is consuming energy throughout the work day and beyond. MyHydro also enables you to set reminders to log in and check your consumption and alerts if your business is consuming more than expected.

Make the switch to LED lighting

Compared to incandescent bulbs, LEDs use at least 75 percent less energy and can last up to 20 times longer. Recent advances in LED technology ensure there is an energy efficient lighting solution to fit your needs and budget. Most new LED products feature simple controls to adjust not only brightness but also colour temperature, creating a consistent mood and atmosphere in your business.

Regularly clean your air filters

Your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system works hard to keep you comfortable all year round, but it has to work even harder if the filters aren’t properly maintained. It’s important to change or clean your HVAC filters regularly to ensure the equipment isn’t being overworked or reducing your indoor air quality.

Turn off the lights and equipment

A quick and easy way to see significant energy savings is turning off any unnecessary lights and equipment at the end of the day. Keep in mind that screensavers don’t reduce energy use, so it’s best to ensure that computer monitors are either set to sleep mode or turned off when not in use.

Look for the ENERGY STAR® label

ENERGY STAR makes it easy for consumers and businesses to purchase products that save energy and money. Whether you’re shopping for computers, refrigerators, lighting and more, always look for the ENERGY STAR label to know you’re making the best choice in energy efficiency for your equipment.
